CHANCE'S FUND

WHY MY MOM AND I STARTED CHANCE'S FUND.

In 2005, Meloney Nunez found Chance, her first rescue horse. The once beautiful and active rodeo horse was in pitiful shape. He was standing in urine up to his knees and was a shadow of what he had been in his glory days. He was destined to be put down.

Meloney and her sons brought Chance home where he had ample food and constant medical help for his feet. The adoration between Chance and the young boys was quite mutual, and a bond was created.

Over the next year, Chance enjoyed the love and affection of his new family and the comfort of a new home. Sadly, his battle to beat the infection in his feet was simply too much. He lived just short of a year following his rescue.

The loss was a hard one for the boys. After Chance was gone, Meloney and her son, Skyler, decided to establish a fund in Chance's name. The fund will be used to purchase abandoned and neglected horses and to provide feed and medical care for them. Additionally, the fund will provide scholarships to teens and families who might not otherwise be able to afford Equine Assisted Therapy.

"We won't get to keep them that long but at least we let them get a good home for as long as they can live. We will pray to God and if they need medicine, we will use Chance's fund to try to make them feel better."
